09 Dec Lit by LUX: Recycled Bicycle Chandeliers by Facaro

“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

We’ve all heard the saying but no one quite brings the saying to life so uniquely than artist Carolina Fontoura Alzaga (Facaro). Facaro rummages junkyards and dumpsters in search for old bicycle parts to recycle them into stunning, cascading chandeliers. Chandeliers are typically a sign of wealth and grandeur, and even though Facaro’s chandeliers are draped with bicycle chains and not crystals, they are no less beautiful.

The chandeliers are part of her CONNECT series in which she explores the third function, or life, of an object. As her website states, “…after their original function, after they become trash, when they are transformed into something new altogether – effectively reclaiming the ‘discarded’ and ‘invisible’ to create something far more powerful and commanding.”

Facaro first contacted us this summer interested in our vintage LED filaments to
light one of her chandeliers. When we looked up her work we were utterly impressed and so excited to play a small part in her beautiful artwork. We knew our LED filament Flame Tip Candle would be the perfect fit to her chandeliers as they are not only energy saving and efficient, but better for the environment as well. She didn’t have to compromise her vintage style for modern functions.

Thank you, Facaro, for choosing to be Lit by LUX! See more of her chandeliers for sale on her website.
